Palm springs, california

In South Palm Springs, at the edge of the Indian Canyons, this 1962 William Krisel residence had endured years of unsympathetic alterations and short-term rental use before we approached its restoration with architectural restraint and care within preservation guidelines.

The work focused on returning clarity to the architect’s original intent, including the careful restoration of his signature shadow block—raised concrete masonry walls that modulate with desert light, shifting in depth and shadow as the sun moves through the day. New poured terrazzo floors were introduced as a continuous plane, reinforcing the home’s indoor–outdoor logic and grounding the interiors in material permanence and quiet continuity.

The Inspiration and Materials

Drawing from the San Jacinto Mountains that rise behind the home, an interior palette was developed that translates the desert light into mineral tones—shifting from morning cream to canyon blush as the day recedes.
